Who we are
Breaking Chains Community Centre is a community-based centre in Zone 13, Sebokeng. We bring together skills training, education support, wellness and enterprise programmes in one place, so that community members can access help close to home.
Our name reflects our purpose: breaking the chains of unemployment, limited skills and lost opportunity — and replacing them with training, guidance and support.
Breaking Chains Community Centre was founded by a small, passionate group of local young people dedicated to lifting youth out of poverty.

Why we exist
Sebokeng carries a long history of struggle. During apartheid the township became a centre of resistance, including the rent boycotts that met with heavy repression and left deep scars on families and local services.
Those pressures did not end in 1994. Today the community still contends with gangsterism, service delivery backlogs, and widespread substance abuse — challenges that fall hardest on young people.
Youth poverty and limited opportunities mean many learners leave school without the skills, support or networks they need to find work or continue studying.
This is why Breaking Chains exists. Our tutoring, food, psychosocial support, digital literacy and work readiness programmes address these realities directly: keeping learners in school, meeting basic needs, offering safe guidance, and opening a path to work and enterprise.
